SUMARRY "THE GHOST OF GENNY CASTLE

This book was written by John Escott and has 34 pages. It was a non fiction book. There are 4 main characters in this story, Claire, Aunt Mint, a cat and Walter Burge.
This story began when Claire's parent went for Christmas holiday, so Claire had to stay with her aunt names Mint. Just outside the village near her aunt's house there was a ruined castle. Many ghost stories were told about the castle locally. When Claire arrived at her aunt's house, she was fascinated by the castle, but her aunt told her to stay away from the place. This make Claire even more curious about the castle and she secretly went to explore it. Then Claire found a book which told a terrible story about death of a witch in Genny Castle two hundred years ago. It happened when a woman names Alexa came to the castle about two hundred years ago. She was a servant. Soon after she came things began to go wrong. Servants were ill and animals began to die. They though she was a witch and she was burned. 3 years after a witch died, a daughter of the man who's living at the castle too was ill. So man servant brought another witch to him. But the witch did not want to help his daughter. This is because he had burned her sister 3 years ago. A week later the girl died. After that, they took the witch to the top of the Black Tower and burned her. After that, people say that they saw and hear the ghost of the witch on the tower at midnight with her fire-coloured hair and her green eyes.
On the way back from the village one evening, Claire and her aunt had an accident in their car and to walk home in the dark and the snowing. They reach at a cottage where Walter Burge and his cat lived. Everyone said the old man was a little crazy. He was not in his house and Claire realize that he must went up to the castle. She was desperate to get helped for her aunt, who was ill and tired. She went up and found the old man and his cat.
Claire told her names when she called Walter to get help. This make Walter remembered back a story about Genny Castle. Walter knew the story of Alexa the witch with thee fire-coloured hair that was burned 2oo hundred years ago and a cat actually was a spirit of Alexa. He also knew Claire was the name of the daughter of the man that had died because the witch did not help her.
Suddenly, the wall of the castle fell down and the half of the tower began to follow them. Claire and Walter ran across to the stairs and down them. They looked back when they got to the bottom. Most of the Black Tower was suddenly not there. They found the cat in the snow of the bottom of the tower. It was dead. Finally all of the mystery of the castle disappeared.

MAHATMA GANDHI

Mohandes Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869 in Porbandar. His family was Hindus and they weren’t poor family. He went to school. He hated sports but he enjoyed long walks. Gandhi ate meat but he didn’t tell his mother because his friend told that British are strong because they eat meat. When he was 13 years old, his parents found a wife for him, Kasturbai who is 12 years old. They had their first child in 1886. He went to London (an expensive city) when he was 18 years old and his mother did not liked it. He felt happier living on very little money. He worked hard at college for 3 years. Then, when he went back to India, he was a lawyer. His first important job was in South Africa. He was excited about the work and it was only for 1 y. South Africa was also under British rule. Many Indians worked there but the White rules didn’t like them. They called them “colored”. They made different laws for Indians and black African. Gandhi was on a train from Durban to Pretoria. He was in first class. A white man asked him to get out from the train. His protested that but the white man asked policeman to force him to move to the third class. He did not move and the white man threw his bags off. He stayed the night at Petermarstzburg station and started thinking to help Indians there.
Gandhi stayed in South Africa for 20 years and brought his family. He read a lot of books and wanted to learn new ideas. He wanted to change things. Many Indians lived in Natal and Transvaal. They worked on sugar and coffee farms. South Africa had hard laws for Indians and black Africans. He knew and wanted to change some things. The white man started a newspaper for Indians for a new law in Transvaal. If the Indians didn’t do it, they would be in prison. They called it “Black Laws”. In front of the police, Gandhi put his papers in a fire. They took him to prison. His new idea was non-violent protest. After that, they are only Christians could marry in S.A. Muslims and Hindus couldn’t marrying.
He came out of prison and started another non-violent protest. In October 1913 he marched with 1000 of Indians from Natal into Transvaal. They walked without shoes and ate only bread and sugar. The police stopped the march. He went to prison again and a lot of other Indians went to prison too. In 1914, South Africa changed its laws. Everybody could marry. He now turned to the question of independence for India. He left Johannesburg in July 1914 and had arrived back in India in 1915 (wore simple India clothes). Everybody did not believe it was him. He was famous in his country but he didn’t know his country very well. He went to many different places in India and met 1000 of ordinary people. In 1915, he visited the school and met his new friend, Tagore and gave Gandhi a new name-MAHATMA (the soul of India). There were different classes. The highest class was holy men, then the soldiers. After that the farmers,his class and at bottom, UNTOUCHABLES-they did dirty jobs because they cleaned the streets and nobody wanted to talk with them but he invited them to his farm. He wanted 5 things in his life: no violence between Hindus and Muslims, the same rights for UNTOUCHABLES as for other Hindus; Indians in Indian clothes, the same right for women as for men; independence for India from British rule. Then, G went to the jail for 2 years because of his protest to the clothes of British and also they march in certain places.
Then British gave better jobs to Muslims while Hindus not and most children couldn’t go to school. People got excited and angry but he asked them to work together as a 1 family. He started to fast and only ate again when the violence stopped. On day 21 of fast, Hindu and Muslim leaders came to see him and he won. Three most important Indian leaders were Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Mohd. Ali Jannah and they wanted independence for India but British was not ready. G started to walk twenty kms everyday and it’s called “Salt March”. They took salt and not pay to the British and they broke the law. British looked stupid after the Salt March and invited him to London for talks. But things were worse. British leader brought in new laws.
After that, he left the fight for independence for a time and gave it to Nehru and Jinnah and he worked for the rights of poor people. He wanted to teach poor people about good, simple food. Then his wife died before India was free. There was a problem when Jinnah wanted 1 country (Pakistan) for Muslims. He agreed by giving money to Pakistan. Many Hindus weren’t happy. Violence between them began. August 15, 1947 India won independence after 19 years but there is still war between them (Hindus and Muslims). When he was in Delhi, there was a man’s Nathuram Godse shot him three times because he was angry for Hindus.
Finally, everywhere is dark because the Father of the country is dead.1000 of people cried and ordinary people around the world listened to their radios and felt sad. Even Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Dalai Lama read his books and studied his life. He was a leader that always followed his truth. He showed the world nonviolent protest.

My Book Review

The title of book is Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This book was written by Washington Irving and the number of pages is 28. There were two different stories in this book. The stories in this book were about people and about ghosts. There were a lot of questions in the stories, but not many answers. I choose one story was very interesting and the title was Rip Van Winkle. Firstly, this story was about a man lived in small town and his name was Rip Van Winkle. He was a farmer, but he didn't like working. The people in the town liked him because he liked talking to the men in the bar. He liked helping them. He had a wife and two children. A daughter and a son. His wife was always angry with him because he didn't work and he talked with his friends.

One day, he went to the mountain with his dog and he stayed there. At the mountain, he met an old man. The old man had a lot of white hair, a long beard and had a big barrel with him. This man was very strange. Rip Van Winkle was a kind man and he helped the old man. After that, the man and Rip came to a big building in the mountain. There were a lot of men there, but Rip didn't know them. They had very long, white beard and they were old. The old men had a drink from barrel. Then Rip had a drink from it.

At night, Rip was sleeping in the mountain. Tomorrow morning, he woke from his sleep but he was surprised because the old men and his dog were not there. He searched for them in the mountain, but he could not met them. Slowly, he walked down the mountain to his town. He was unhappy because he didn't have his dog. He was afraid because he didn't want to see his wife. He didn't know the people in his town and the houses weren't the same. After that, he met his daughter. Rip lived with his daughter and her family. Rip's son lived with them too. His wife had passed away. Rip didn't work because he was old. He played with his children and he talked to the men in the hotel. Some men were his old friends. His daughter told him about his disappearing for twenty years. So, he realized the drink was bad because Rip became an old man and slept in the mountain. He thought that he was sleeping only a night, but he lived there for very long time..Thank you.....
